Oregon law requires that all students attending school must be up to date with their immunizations or have an appropriate medical or non-medical exemption in place. Every February, the state determines a day that students must be excluded from school if they do not have up-to-date records.
*Information about what immunizations are required can be found here on the Oregon Health Authority website (multiple languages are available).
*Information about how to obtain a non-medical exemption can be found here (multiple languages available).
*Information on medical exemptions and immunity documentation can be found on this link.
*Places to receive vaccines:
-Make an appointment with your primary care provider
-Call Clatsop County Public Health at 503-325-8500
-Many local pharmacies offer vaccines, call them directly for availability and appointments.
-Call 211 or email help@211info.org to locate other providers, multiple languages are available.

Oregon law heavily regulates how medications are dispensed at schools. Please read this document (English and Spanish) to understand the policies and procedures before you bring any medication to school.
All medications must be medically necessary for your student to remain at school.
Please remember that a parent or guardian must transport and check in all medications to the school.
Please do not send any medications, including over-the-counter medications and cough drops, with your student.
The required medication authorization form that parents must fill out can be found here (English and Spanish).
Students that are developmentally and behaviorally able may be allowed to self-carry and self-medicate some medications. Parent authorization and Seaside School District Administration authorization is required. Additional forms/information may be required depending on the type of medication that is being self-administered. The self-medication contract can be found here (English and Spanish).
All students with life-threatening allergies, asthma, seizures, diabetes, adrenal insufficiency, and other health conditions that require emergency medications, emergency response or daily nursing care (including but not limited to G-tube feedings and catheterizations) will require a nursing health plan. If your student has any of the above-listed conditions or needs planned nursing care and support at school, please contact Nurse Dani. All health plans are renewed each school year and may require new doctor’s orders each school year. Please note that all orders and prescriptions must be from an Oregon-licensed provider.
Opioid overdose reversal medications, also called naloxone or Narcan™, can very quickly restore normal breathing for a person whose breathing has slowed down or stopped because of an overdose of prescription opioids or illicit opioids, which includes illicitly manufactured fentanyl and heroin. The Seaside School District has Narcan available at all of our schools so staff can quickly respond to an opioid overdose situation. Please click here (English and Spanish) for a parent letter and links to additional resources for families.
Vision Screenings: The Seaside School District is proud to partner with the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation to provide vision screenings for all students in the district that are present on the date of screening. Screenings take place one day each fall for the Secondary Building and another day at Pacific Ridge Elementary. Dates each year are advertised in the parent newsletters for each school. Screenings are done with volunteers from the local Lions club using a Welch Allyn Spot device that can detect eight different vision issues. If your student is absent on the day of screening, we are able to screen your student with the district’s Plus Optix screener per parent or staff request. Please notify your student’s school if you would like to opt out of vision screenings each year. If your student fails the screening, it is strongly recommended that you follow up with an eye exam at your eye doctor. Please reach out to Nurse Dani if you need any support with this or have any questions.
Hearing Screenings: Hearing screenings are conducted once each school year for grades K-3, 7th grade, 11th grade, and students in other grades via staff or parent request. Screenings are completed with a pure-tone audiometer. If a student does not pass an initial screening, a second attempt will be made at a later date. Colds, ear infections, earwax, allergies, and a noisy school environment can interfere with good testing results. Please remember, these are meant to be screenings, not diagnostic tests of hearing loss. If you have any concerns about your student’s hearing or if they do not pass the screening, please consider a formal evaluation by an audiologist. Specific screening dates are advertised in school newsletters each year. Contact your student’s school office if you would like to opt out of the screenings each year. Please reach out to Nurse Dani with any questions.
Dental Screenings: During the school year, preventative dental services are offered to students free of charge with parental consent. All students are welcome to participate. The service includes a screening, fluoride treatment, and dental sealants provided by Arrow Dental. Please watch the parent newsletter for dates and links to the consent forms each school year. Parents must sign and complete the consent form in its entirety for their student to receive services.
