Pacifica Projects
Our Seniors were given the following information to begin the 2008-09 school year. It is a graduation requirement to successfully complete a Pacifica Project. We encourage students to communicate with their mentors and Mr. Hawes & Mr. Boyd, SHS Pacifica supervisors.

Requirements:

  • 50 hours in the community
  • End-of-year community presentation
  • Must not be for profit / non-religious in nature
  • Must have a supervisory role with a community
    Mentor

Mentors: are community members that have some logical connection to your project; they are people we at the school may contact about your progress or they may contact us about our students; they are people that understand your service is part of a school project and they know our guidelines. Mr. Hawes will need the name and number of your mentor.
  • Any money raised must be strictly accounted for: Open up an account with Mrs. Romine. If you are raising money with an existing organization, you must adhere to their policies regarding fund-raising.
  • Students may work with a partner or partners. Each partner is required to meet the 50 hour commitment. Choose partners well.

What should you choose?

  • something realistic that fits into your schedule, your transportation needs, your work, etc…
  • a project that will challenge and interest you; figure out what you like to do, and we’ll figure out a project

All groups must meet with Mr. Hawes by Oct. 20th. If you are alone, confused, or need help, come see me immediately.

If you are going to do a project involving any of our area schools, you must get approval through proper channels. Just because it’s the school doesn’t mean you can just go ahead and do it; projects must be approved by Administration.

Absences due to projects must be pre-approved just like any/all other absences. You should not be missing school to accomplish the required hours.

Be Proud of what you do. The community loves and needs your skills and energy. Do the project well, choose wisely, have fun, learn some things about our community and yourselves.
